Iron by Rust

Had a bit of a rest since the Snowdon Race. Did get out for short jog on Thursday but I felt unfit. Late nights and an Aperol haze did not do me any favours, the only consolation was the company…of the lazy heron and surging nettles that intersected my usual route, it was strange-nice. Visited the auction and a house clearance sale on Friday and was so excited to find a Kenny lecture on Plato’s Republic, 1969, 50p, it was 30p on publication in 1969:

“Each thing is destroyed by its characteristic disease (kakia): eyes by ophthalmia, and iron by rust. Now vice is the characteristic disease of the soul; but vice does not destroy the soul…..”

(609d)  A. Kenny, ‘Mental Health in Plato’s Republic’, Dawes Hicks Lecture on Philosophy, 1969
