Wide Sea

Had a week of feeling a bit sub par. Maybe it’s the weather, it has been so wet, cold and dark all week. Doing two 50+ milers in a month has taken its toll I think, I felt good at the time but I’m paying my dues now.

Still on with Shackleton

Alone, alone, all, all alone,

Alone on a wide, wide sea.

The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, S. T. Coleridge

Food and wine, what goes well together? If I was a sommelier for suffering, I think Shackleton is an excellent pairing with that wintery malaise we find ourselves drowning in.

Kept physical activity to a minimum, in case I was coming down with something, only made it to the gym this evening. Dragging myself through a slow 5K. A weak attempt to get the legs moving in anticipation of the race on Saturday. It’s only 10k, with a big hill at the beginning up the aptly named ‘Beast Banks’, elevation deemed worthy enough for Wiggo on the Tour of Britain a couple of years ago.

Still, looking forward to some proper suffering, wet and cold please.
